Warner Music Group, HBO, and More on the New York Connection

Looking for a comprehensive list of who’s who on the New York Connection? We’ve already covered our spotlights for Imaginary Forces and The Wall Street Journal but today we’re tying it all together with some of the other heavy hitters you’ll be seeing on our visit to the Big Apple!

Warner Music Group

If you have a passion for the music industry and want to turn that into a career, look no further than Warner Music Group. While you may not have heard of them, they’re behind some of the hottest artists from Charlie XCX, to Jason Derulo, Echosmith, Ed Sheeran and more – WMG is the place to be. They offer internship opportunities in both their New York City headquarters and in Los Angeles. They’ve found that Emerson students bring a level of tenacity and work ethic not common in most college students and turn to Career Services to help them find the talent coming out of our school. Their internships range from video production, marketing, publicity, graphic design and more. Translation: They have something for almost all our majors and programs.

While their internships are unpaid, they do encourage you to get academic credit for it and guarantee your time with them will be a great way to build your professional skills, network with industry insiders and have a little fun too 🙂

UTA

United Talent Agency is a powerhouse in the entertainment industry. Formed in 1991, UTA’s dedication to client success in addition to their ability to entice some of Hollywood’s most recognized Talent Agents to join their team jumpstarted them to become arguably one of the largest most influential agencies in the business. Their impressive client roster covers the entertainment spectrum representing stars such as Angelina Jolie, Will Ferrell, Harrison Ford and Daniel Radcliff as well as some of the most well-known filmmakers and screenwriters like Judd Apatow, The Cohen Brothers, Adam Anderson, among many others.

Whether you’re looking to become an intern to learn what the talent agency business is all about or if you’re ready to take the next step and apply to their entry-level mailroom opportunities, thinking of working at a talent agency as your fast-track to Hollywood success. You’ll meet directors, producers, actors, and high-level executives from all the major studios and distributors. This is the place to see and be seen and will be the experience of a lifetime.

HBO

You’ve probably never heard of HBO… right? Unless you’ve been living under a bridge your whole life, of course you have! HBO has been consistently producing some of the world’s best television content for almost 60 years and they show no signs of slowing down. In fact, HBO reaches over 36 million subscribers in the US alone and another 130 million across the globe – making them one of most watched American television stations. Always on the cutting edge, HBO was the first major US paid subscription channel to offer video-on-demand and online streaming services. Known for their original TV content, HBO seems to be able to tap the pulse of the collective American psyche by creating hit after hit with some of the most-watched television series to date like True Blood, Six Feet Under, and Game of Thrones.

As you might expect, internships at HBO are some of the most competitive in the industry and getting your foot in the door can seem like an uphill battle. But don’t fret! Your decision to come to Emerson enables you to connect with our successful alumni currently working there and by engaging with Career Services, we’re able to help you get noticed through our ongoing relationship with their campus recruiting team. Contact our office today to start planning how you’re going to go after these internships and set yourself up for success!

NBC

NBCUniversal, the largest single employer of Emerson alumni (from what we can tell) has had an ongoing and close relationship with Emerson for decades. Many of our former students who graduated in the 1980’s comprise a hefty portion of their senior leadership and our more recent alums have found much success there over the years. Career Services has recently began to develop this partnership even further by organizing on-campus recruiting events like Information Sessions, on-campus interviews and putting together resume books of our student applicants which we send directly to the recruiting team to highlight the talent coming out of our school. Whether your dream is to work on a late night show like Jimmy Kimmel or Seth Myers or if you see yourself on the corporate side doing marketing, digital content or programming (and many, many more opportunity) NBC wants to see your application and Career Services is here to help you every step of the way.
