About Internships:

A photo of a student at their internship.

Internships allow students to apply the knowledge they gain in the classroom to a professional setting. These opportunities are the perfect way to use the concepts you learn from your major to earn experience along with academic credit or compensation.

You may complete internships either individually or with recognition from Emerson College. Please note that for-credit internships must be completed with approval from the Career Development Center. Students may not receive retroactive credit.

Review Internship Policies & Internship Code of Conduct:

A couple of specific policies to note:

  • Emerson students may not participate in a credit-bearing internship at a business owned or operated by a current Emerson faculty or staff member.
  • A student may not use Emerson College as a host organization for a credit-bearing internship.
  • Students may not receive retroactive credit.

Steps to Submitting Your Internship:

  1. Secure an internship. Use Handshake to search or find one on your own.
  2. Register for the 499 or 690 internship course within your major. PDE’s do not require initial registration. A registration code will be emailed to you. (View Class Terms & Requirements)
  3. Submit an Experience Proposal through Handshake. The faculty member running your course will be sent your proposal for their final approval.
